AlphaClone
AlphaClone challenged Planet Argon to collaborate on the creation of a full featured portfolio simulation tool for tracking the stock ideas of top money managers using publicly available SEC filing data, updated automatically and with testing capabilities back to 2000. We said yes.
When Mazin Jadallah and Mebane Faber came to us in January of 2008, the AlphaClone idea was still rough around the edges. The project began with our Iteration Zero process, a workshop designed to help the team uncover goals, define scope, and outline expectations. It was then that we set rough milestones for the first several releases, all culminating with the third—and public—release.
The project challenged us to learn about a domain that was mostly new territory for us. The team of designers and developers collaborated closely with the client to iterate through several versions of the application interface. Special attention was paid to the presentation of data and the interactive tools available throughout the site. In addition to placing a strong focus on the user interface, data accuracy and integrity has been a top priority. AlphaClone’s business model is primarily subscription based, which required the integration of a billing management tool for subscription administration.
Within a year of first making contact AlphaClone was launched and generating revenue. Our support didn’t stop there. Planet Argon continues to provide application support and maintenance, hosting and deployment consulting, and collaborative design planning.
